As a dad, I want my boys to understand the value of family time. Every year, we take our annual camping trip to a different campground with family. This year, we almost didn't go because of the air quality.
The boys were super bummed about it, but I had to tell them, "I know you had your hearts set on going, but there are times when things change, and there isn't anything you can do about it. You just have to find a new alternative and keep pushing forward."
I also told them that while we were upset about the air quality and not being able to go on our camping trip, there are people in the middle of these fires who have to be evacuated and are losing everything. So don't always dwell on yourself. Take a moment to think about what others are going through, too.
Thankfully, the air quality improved, and we were able to go on our camping trip after all.
